Man arrested in fatal hit-and-run accident Tuesday morning

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A Bloomington man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he allegedly fled a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a woman who was walking along a road.

Dustin Eason, 38, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, a level four felony.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, police received several calls around 7 a.m. Tuesday about a woman walking south in the northbound lanes of State Road 37 near Dillman Road.

A few minutes later, they said several callers reported the woman was hit by a car. When first responders arrived to the area, they found the woman dead in the middle of the road.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Eason was located and arrested after a blood draw at the hospital.

The woman's name was not released as of Tuesday afternoon, until the family has been notified.

This is the second fatal hit-and-run in Bloomington this year. In January, a woman, identified as 37-year-old Jade Sanders, was found dead in a ditch nearly a day after she was hit by a car. Police are still searching for the driver in that case.
