Two-month closure begins on Indiana Avenue for storm drain project

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The anticipated months-long closure of Indiana Avenue between Kirkwood Avenue and 6th Street began Monday for the final stretch of Clear Creek Tunnel Project.

The project will increase the size of an underground culvert where the campus river meets underneath Indiana Avenue. The goal is to prevent significant flooding like what was seeing during the Kirkwood Avenue flood of 2021.

In March, the city closed part of the parking lot behind the Von Lee Building. Some of the parking has since reopened.

While the city hopes to have the road reopen in time for students to return to campus in August, the entire project is expected to be completed in October.
