‘Get him!’: Woman arrested after telling dogs to bite officers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A woman is facing charges after allegedly running from police and telling her dogs to bite, sending three officers to the hospital.

Stacy Herrington, 25, is charged with three counts of battery on a police officer with injury (level 5 felonies), resisting law enforcement with injury (a level 6 felony), and resisting law enforcement (a class A misdemeanor).

She was also arrested for three active warrants.

According to court documents, on Aug. 2, a Bloomington Police officer was driving on Country Club Dr near the B-Line Trail crossing and spotted Herrington, who the officer believed had an active warrant.

In the police report, the officer documented turning around and parking near the trail entrance to find Herrington.

While walking the trail on foot, the officer reportedly found the bike Herrington was riding placed on its side near a creek.

The officer walked closer to the creek and spotted Herrington crossing the water with her two dogs.

When the officer called out to her and told her to stop because she had a warrant, Herrington allegedly yelled “I haven’t done anywhere wrong.”

Court documents state Herrington began running away from officers through the creek.

When the officer was able to grab ahold of Herrington, one her dogs reportedly bit the officer’s calf as Herrington allegedly yelled to the dog to “Get him!”

At one point, the officer pulled his taser and pointed it at Herrington and she began to stop resisting. Shortly after, the dogs began to allegedly bite the officer again and police said Herrington continued shouting “Get him!”

According to court documents, she took off running across the creek and the officer fired his taser, hitting Herrington and she fell to the ground.

Eventually, other officers arrived and helped detain Herrington.

Court documents state as she was being handcuffed, her dogs allegedly bit the two other officers. In the police report, the officer documented Herrington allegedly tried to bite the officer’s arm.

Herrington was put into an ambulance to remove the taser probes. The three officers were taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital to be treated for the dog bites.

Animal Care and Control took possession of the dogs.

Herrington has an initial hearing in court on Tuesday.

If convicted, Herrington faces a sentence of up to eight years for each level 5 felony and up to three years for the level 6 felony, according to Indiana Sentencing Guidelines.
